There are two sections to this cemetery that should be noted. Neither section touches the other one and therefore many visit the cemetery looking for their ancestors and cannot locate their burial locations. This section is located on the corner of Shakerag Road and is considered to be the Shakerag Masonic Cemetery. It is maintained by donations and through the oversight of the Lake Creek Masonic Lodge which is located on Washington Street in downtown Johnston City. The second section is located directly north or just to the Northeast of the cemetery sign shown in the photograph. However, there is a private residence (A Mobile Home and a garage with overgrowth) that lies between this section and the section to the Northeast. It may be accessed by entering the driveway of the first home and following what appears to be a driveway/alleyway that will turn into a cemetery drive that leads one into the cemetery. This second second is also maintained by the Lake Creek Mason Lodge and is considered to be the Shakerag Lithunian and Mason Cemetery. Where the mobile home is located, at one time was the location of the Jeffersonville or Shakerag Schoolhouse. Shakerag, is the slang name given to the once village of Jeffersonville that was the early trading village that was once located upon this knoll. The post office was called the Lake Creek Post Office, yet the actual village was named Jeffersonville. The name Shakerag is what the locals named Jeffersonville, as whenever the tavern keeper would get a new shipment of liquor delivered, it is said that he would raise a white rag up on his flag pole, letting the locals know that he had a new shipment of brew, thus the name Shakerag. Jeffersonville, or Shakerag became non existence when the rail road to the west was laid and the village of Jeffersonville moved westward close to the railroad and the new village of Johnston City, Illinois, came into existence in 1894.
